Houston’s Montrose just got a dose of old Hollywood glamour with the opening of Drake’s Hollywood, the latest concept from restaurateur Hunter Pond and Vandelay Hospitality Group. While I couldn’t make the grand opening festivities, I made it a point to dine there shortly after, and let me just say—Drake’s brings the magic of the Golden Era to life, right in the heart of our city.
Situated at 1100 Westheimer Rd., Drake’s Hollywood Houston is the third location of this chic eatery, joining its sister spots in Los Angeles and Dallas. Walking in, you’re immediately transported to a different time. The richly layered interiors, complete with original Hollywood-inspired artworks, strike the perfect balance between vintage glamour and modern comfort. It’s the kind of place where you could dress up for a special occasion or slip in for a casual dinner, and either way, you’d feel right at home.
The menu is every bit as captivating as the ambiance. Drake’s is known for its decadent fare, and Houston is no exception. I started with the Spicy Salmon Crispy Rice, which delivered the perfect kick with gochujang and serrano pepper. For the main course, the Pasta Za Za—rigatoni with a delicious chili flake and parmesan blend—hit all the right notes. Of course, I couldn’t leave without trying their signature “World’s Coldest Martini,” and let me tell you, it lives up to the hype.
The vibe at Drake’s is truly versatile. Whether you’re in the mood for an intimate dinner or a lively night out, this spot covers all the bases. With its dim lighting, plush seating, and nostalgic Hollywood decor, the restaurant feels like a scene straight out of a classic movie. And for those looking to indulge, the menu doesn’t disappoint—think Dry-Aged Wagyu steaks, indulgent sushi rolls, and the 24 Layer Strawberry Cake (yes, 24 layers!!).
What’s more, the Montrose location continues the tradition of combining impeccable food with a standout cocktail program. Their vintage wine selection and expertly crafted cocktails are perfect complements to the culinary experience, with each sip transporting you deeper into the glamour of Hollywood’s heyday.
Drake’s Hollywood has quickly become a must-visit for Houstonians craving a dining experience that’s as memorable as it is delicious. Whether it’s for a celebratory night out or a cozy dinner for two, Drake’s brings a little taste of the West Coast’s golden age to Montrose, and I, for one, couldn’t be happier to welcome this gem to the neighborhood.
