The newly opened neighborhood hotspot, Agnes Café & Provisions, which has been serving up breakfast and lunch since June 8th, will finally begin dinner service starting Tuesday, July 13th! Located at 2132 Bissonnet on the corner of Shepherd, Agnes will seamlessly transition from all-day dining menus into a comfortable and romantic candlelit, table-side experience.
I recently had an opportunity to visit Agnes for lunch and became an instant fan, taken by the quality of ingredients that make you feel like you’re sitting at a beachside bodega on the Mediterranean coast. I’m so excited for this little gem to finally be open in our neighborhood!
Dinner will include a variety of appetizers, all-day sharable plates, entrees, and incredible desserts. You can expect to try Slow Roasted Carrots and Avocado, Crab Toast with chile lime vinaigrette and paprika sauce on sourdough from Magnol French Baking, Piquillo Peppers with morcilla sausage in tomato sauce, and Smoked Beet Carpaccio with goat cheese. For the main course, the Whole Roasted Cauliflower with tahini, pickled onions, dukkah, and herbs on a cilantro crema is divine! Other options include Lamb Kofta Burger, Redfish on the Half Shell with herbed couscous, Half Roasted Chicken, and Filet Mignon with a dollop of herb compound butter, duck fat potatoes, and salsa brava.
Do not skip on the perfectly sharable All Day Plates including Conservas – a delicious selection of preserved anchovies, mussels, sardines, octopus, clams, and tuna belly – served with Magnol French Baking sourdough bread, butter, and pickles; Mezze – a truly Mediterranean-style selection of hummus, labneh, smoked beet tahini dip, butternut tahini dip, tahini ranch, and feta dip – served with yogurt flatbread and pickles; and one of the many rotations of Cheese served with fresh baguette and chutney.
Although dessert only consists of two options, they might be the best in town. The Dark Chocolate Brownie comes with a bourbon vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce and the Torrijas is a caramelized bread pudding with cardamom cream and berries. Better order one of each!
The retail portion of Agnes is beautifully curated by childhood friends and co-owners Molly Voorhees and Carolyn Dorros. Shelves are lined with hard-to-find spices, dried pastas and risottos, high-quality sauces, a variety of cheeses, truffled salamis and brats, biscuit and pancake mix, flavored maple syrups…the list goes on and on!
These two dynamic women have thought of everything – including brilliant readymade gift boxes which would make a perfect hostess gift…..these clever gift boxes will definitely be a favorite new pickup item of mine! (see below)
