Saks Brought Monique Lhuillier Spring/Summer 2016 RTW Collection to town for the Catwalk for the Cure Benefiting Sarcoma Cancer; above look, a favorite, is actually separates!
A Chat with Monique at Hotel Granduca…
Monique Lhuillier was in town for a day, brought here by Saks, to be the feature designer for Sarcoma’s ‘Catwalk for the Cure’. There was quite a media line-up to visit with her and to hear all about her smashing new Spring/Summer 2016 Collection that she would be showing that night.
She chatted about her newest collection, which I had seen only online this season, which many, including Women’s Wear Daily, have been quoted as saying was ‘her best’! The look of this collection as you will see some highlights below are: bold, bright color and very modern, youthful shapes. This clean sophisticated look, she sought out, as her inspiration was from contemporary art. She did more short than usual as she feels that women are wanting to dress more that way now, less long…..she said they like to show off their shoes and accessories. (possibly influenced by Ms. Lhuillier’s intro in stores this season of her very first shoe and handbag collection, all made in Italy). The colors are bold, the prints took much work, says the designer, as they took color and scraped it to get that printed look that is unidentifiable as either floral or splatter, just fool of great color. She’s included separates…..the blue pants with the asymmetrical top one of my favorites as well, pleated skirts, separate bright coats, and the use of lace, a signature of all of Lhuillier’s collections….evening, ready-to-wear and especially bridal. This time she used a heavy french lace, guipure lace, that she embroidered and/or colored to give her traditional lace a new look.
