For the past (less than) two years, Peter Copping has held the title of Creative Director of Oscar de la Renta, and as of yesterday, he’s no longer with the company. He left abruptly saying he had to get back to Europe for personal reasons. Things have certainly been shaking up in the fashion industry this past year, and we’re interested to see who will be brought on to take over the role from Copping, that was hand-picked by Oscar de la Renta himself, to be his replacement.
For me, I am doubly surprised and disappointed to see Peter Copping leave. I interviewed him at our Neiman Marcus Galleria store when he was still at Nina Ricci and I just fell for the guy. He was such a gentleman and sincerely loved dressing women and making them look beautiful. It seemed like only weeks after he left here for Nina that he was announced as the Oscar replacement. I was overjoyed and so happy for him. I am sure that whatever is taking him away is for a good reason and look forward to the day when he will be back at the reigns of some design firm in NYC once again.
