It’s fitting that the Pantone color of 2017 is “Greenery,” because today I am chatting about plants! It’s Alyssa here and below are some tips and tidbits on bringing nature indoors. So, let’s “Dig” in!
Plants add life to a space. They are versatile and can transform any room. They are just as much decor as furniture and art are. Plants never go out of style!
Cacti & Succulents
These low maintenance plants are perfect for bringing a summer vibe to your home! They come in a variety of shapes and colors, so it’s easy to find a particular one to go with the color scheme of your home. You can even plant these all together in a big bowl or planter and create a mini garden.
Display Plants Like Art
Mount them into a gallery wall, use interesting pieces as pots (like teacups!), DIY a macrame plant hanger, or perch your plant on a modern stand.
Go faux!
If you don’t have a green thumb (like moi) or live in a home with not enough natural light, faux plants are a great choice! Because these last a lifetime, be sure to invest in high quality faux plants. TIP: To make faux plants not look…faux, is to make sure they aren’t perfect. Find a plant that has a natural shape or bends in different directions. You can even trim them too!
Urban Outfitters (yes, this is faux!)
Herbs are plants too!
Cute AND functional. Herbs are not only great for decorating your kitchen, but add pizzaz and great flavor to any meal!
Etsy, all the way
I for one am all about shopping local, especially when it comes to something perishable like plants. But, Etsy has an incredible selection of shops that sell succulents, cacti, air plants, seeds, and handmade planters from artisans all over the US.
Start in the Kitchen
One of the main reasons plants die is because of a lack of sunlight. Kitchens are a great place to start growing plants because they bring in a lot of light through large windows. Windowsills are the perfect spot!
Plants Improves Air Quality
Plants release oxygen during photosynthesis, which can actually help the climate of a room. Increased amounts of oxygen in your home helps reduce stress and can make you feel more alert – plants make you happy! Some plants like Aloe, Gerber Daisy, and Spider plants even filter out harmful VOCs like formaldehyde and benzene from the air.
