Berg Hospitality Group is expanding into the Heights area through a new collaboration with Ancorian, a leading regional investment and development firm. Both Houston-based, Berg and Ancorian plan to create two new vibrant and unique restaurant concepts on West 11th Street. “To have two outposts in one of Houston’s most dynamic and fastest growing neighborhoods is an incredible opportunity for us,” says Berg.
“We really trust Ben’s incredible eye for design and creative culinary expertise to transform both projects into beautiful, unique spaces and dining experiences that Houstonians will view as community staples for years to come,” says Ancorian Partner, Neil Martin.
Ancorian partners, Neil Martin and Michael Sperandio, first sought out Berg to open a restaurant at 911 West 11th Street, which was formerly occupied by Presidio, a locally owned eatery that permanently closed in October 2018. There, Berg plans to open Trattoria Sofia, which will offer authentic, rustic Italian food in an intimate, romantic setting. For this location, 911 West 11th Street, slated to open in May 2021, Berg is completely remodeling the 2500 sq. ft. space, creating “Houston’s most whimsical dining room and patio, reminiscent of a lost garden,” says Berg.
That’s not all.…..Most recently, Ancorian had even bigger plans for the Houston restaurateur with their latest Heights project, The Docks at Timbergrove, a planned redevelopment of a 50,000 sq. ft. warehouse located at 2505 West 11th Street. Formerly occupied by a commercial door and hardware company over the past 20 years, Ancorian is converting the building into a first-class, mixed-use development while maintaining the original industrial character of the building. Construction begins at the end of May 2021 with the restaurant scheduled to open in January 2022.
There’s more…..B.B. Italia Kitchen & Bar is moving
In case you may have missed it, another big announcement this week for Berg Hospitality was that B.B. Italia Kitchen & Bar, which was located at 14795 Memorial Drive is temporarily closing its doors while they are preparing to relocate to a more suitable building in the Memorial/Energy Corridor neighborhood. The restaurant which was the former Carmelos was originally built in a different time for a different end use.
“Due to the pandemic, most offices in the Energy Corridor are still not at full capacity and companies are not planning private events. Because B.B. Italia is the second largest restaurant in our company at 8,000 sq. ft., and has more private event rooms than any of our other locations, it just wasn’t a viable business plan anymore. I am confident that we will be much more successful in the smaller space in which we plan to reopen.” says Benjamin Berg CEO & Founder of Berg Hospitality Group.
Over the next 2-3 months, there will be some downtime while the renovation is taking place for B.B. Italia to move into its new home. (exact address TBA very soon) In the meantime guests can still order B.B. Italia’s delicious pizzas, pastas and more from their CloudKitchen pickup/delivery site titled Fair Food Co., which is located in the Galleria area at 5832 Fairdale Lane, Houston, Tx, 77057. Guests can order from the CloudKitchen at this link, https://berghospitality.olo.com/, or directly on Uber Eats, DoorDash, Postmates or Grubhub. You can view the B.B.
