It’s that time of year again when I am headed back to Italy with Alan…..the place I like to call my second home even though I wish I we could be there more often! Every year is different. This year we are starting in Milan, a favorite of mine and also as a bucket list item, we are finally seeing The Last Supper, then headed to Piedmont……Genoa, Portofino/Santa Margherita, Turin, and Alba with full days planned for each. We will then drive to Tuscany by way of lunch in Lucca. Florence, is this year, as it always has been, high on our list as an annual must do for us…..we don’t really feel that we have made a visit to our homeland without a stay in our favorite Italian home of Firenze. Many plans for our week there which is including some never-before-visited nearby towns and new restaurants and sites and always visits with our many friends we have made there.
As I sit here in the Airport lounge, waiting to depart, I can’t restrain from the excitement that I always feel when we are on our way to Italia.
Last year was such a special visit for us that it will be hard to beat……it was our inaugural visit to the area of Italy that was the homeland of three of my ancestors, my grandparents, and that was Sicily. It was such a moving experience that I still get very emotional when I talk about it and know that it was just a taste of Sicily for me……I want more and starting next year I hope to return and see more of Sicily and of Calabria, which is an area on the rise, that was the home of my fourth grandfather!
As I make another trip around the sun, I have come to the realization that I am now living my bucket list and have every intention of living it to the fullest! The time is NOW and we are ready to do it. I am starting by showing you just a small overview of my Sicily trip of last year as many of you have asked me for and invite you to stay tuned to my social media as I take you with us on this year’s excusiions.
Buon Viaggio to all of you that are out there, I know many of you are sharing these experiences, many travelers to Italy this year, as well…..have fun enjoy soaking in the culture that is Italia!
You look and sound ready for this year’s adventure.
Safe travels. Yvonne
