André Leon Talley, former American Editor-at-large of Vogue Magazine is well-known in all fashion circles for the duration of his well-lived career
To Quote the Museum of Fine Arts Houston: From the segregated American South to the fashion capitals of the world, the life and career of operatic fashion editor André Leon Talley are on full display in this poignant portrait. The Gospel According to André features appearances by Manolo Blahnik, Tom Ford, Diane von Furstenberg, Valentino Garavani, Marc Jacobs, and Anna Wintour, among others.
Weaving together a wealth of archival footage from glamorous moments in fashion history with Talley’s own reflections on his experiences, the documentary is a cinematic monument to a unique figure of contemporary American culture.
Talley is also curator of the MFAH exhibition The Glamour and Romance of Oscar de la Renta, on view through January 28 and was the keynote speaker at the luncheon launching this major exhibition. If you have not seen the Oscar exhibit it is a must see for all fashion lovers and could be combined on the day of the film to make it a ‘Day of Andre’.
This film which does not debut in NYC until its premier there in April is being made available to our Museum of Fine Arts Houston for one day, January 21, exclusively as a first run in America. It will later be distributed around the country.
Date and Times: Sunday January 21 at 4:00p.m. and 7:00 p.m; tickets are available now through the Museum website(click here)….do not hesitate as this is a one-time opportunity.
It should be noted that on-hand for each performance to introduce the film will be our town’s own glamorous Yvonne Cormier, long standing friend of Mr. Talley, that also makes an appearance in the documentary.
