So here I am, finally chiming in on my take on the latest Awards Show fashions. It’s not as though I haven’t been watching…..I’ve watched every show and noted many likes and not-likes but January has been a super busy month for me so far and I would say that my cup runneth over with lots of happenings that have taken away much of my writing time…..not the least of all, our glorious evening of all things Italian which I talk about later.
I could stay on the sidelines no longer as the SAG awards which aired during the spectacular Social Book 25th Anniversary celebration at Neiman Marcus here in our town on Sunday evening happened, only for me to watch taped after I returned home that night. The SAG Awards, are always one of my favorite award shows. I love the way Hollywood celebrates each other and its so apparent how each actor cherishes this time together!
So since I’m not the first on the block to talk about this evening, I approached it a little differently. Not just as a fashion red carpet review but as a look back at the highlights of the evening for me……….a look at those special moments that I wanted to capture in a fashionable way!
My Highlights of the Night…..
First, if you watched the telecast of the evening or just all of the post-show coverage I think you would agree that the evening belonged to this A-lister as her half of a famous duo. Jen and Brad, though not coupled for the evening, their un-coupling and reuniting, if only during this telecast, was the talk of the night. Jennifer Anniston, a gal usually decked in basic black for these types of events, was stunning in her white custom Dior gown. The elegance of the gown, spoke volumes to her simple, understated classic style that she is known for.
For me, Renee Zellweger has always been a favorite. Not just because we can claim her as a home-town gal from Katy, Texas but because she has always endeared me with the roles she has chosen……going back to her infamous “you had me at hello” take with Tom Cruise that started it all for her. I love that she’s back and better than ever as Judy Garland. She always wears a classic gown (loved her powder blue Armani at the Golden Globes) that is guaranteed to show off those trademark shoulders of hers. Love her and always love her choices and her casual approach to elegance.
Michelle Williams, another lady that always pulls off a classic with a touch of edge to it. This evening she looked the part and her acceptance speech warmed my heart……a call-out to her daughter Matilda with deceased actor Heath Ledger, the former Joker, we lost too soon, recognized that evening also by Joaquin Phoenix in his acceptance.
Robert De Niro was the 26th recipient of the SAG-AFTRA Lifetime Achievement Award, which is awarded for the actor who fosters the “finest ideals of the acting profession”. I’m always a fan of his and his performances.
Talking Fashion…..
The following are my favorite looks of the evening…..Note: these are only MY highlights.
