Everyday is a New Day As We All Experience Life As We’ve Never Known It!

Staying current on plan changes as they are happening

City Updates

UPDATES……as of 3/20/20

As of today and every day we are all here trying to keep updated on how this once-busy event city of ours is winding down to prepare for this time like we’ve never known. Things are so indefinite right now that unfortunately many things are just cancelled but some are in the works for a new date, just hard to know when that new date could be. God willing, Fall 2020 will be a crazy time! Be Safe, Be Healthy, Be Smart!

Editor’s note, 3/15/20: I feel that I am back, focused on my business and my many readers out there, after a week like nothing I have experienced possibly ever. When I think of the dramatic life-changing activiites in the last week it is jarring. A week ago we were concerned for what we were hearing was happening in our world…….this virus had started to take hold, globally, but it still felt a little removed. My deep concern as I approached the Luncheon I was co-chairing for the Italian Cultural Center, was for my native homeland of Italy. What was happening there was frightening and our goal as we prepped for our gathering of Italian supporters was to ensure that we paid our due respect. It was not until, literally the day leading into our luncheon that everything began to change……the news around the U.S. was starting to escalate out of control……….but it was the shuttering of our beloved Houston Live Stock Show & Rodeo and the Mayors actions that began the spiral in our town.

So here we are in a much different world in just one week. The virus is taking over our country and we are hopefully doing enough of the right things to keep our friends and family safe and healthy certainly here in our hometown but also for those that we care about around the U.S. and abroad. The Italy problems are real and devastating. Also, we know that Spain, France, the U.K., Belgium and more, all declaring their condition to be as dire and are in various stages of lockdowns as well. However for those of us here in Houston, Texas we must take every precaution to care for ourselves, our families and our friends. “Social distancing” is something that we should put into practice but not without ensuring that we still share our love and friendship with those we care about. Stay close to home but also remember that we have so many small businesses in this city and surrounding areas that are out there attempting to keep their worlds ready for us. They need us and we depend on them and must continue to find ways, if possible, to

To try and be informative, especially while we are all trying to get our arms around what is happening so rapidly and as many of us are headed to work from home…….we are attempting to answer all questions that are paramount in planning our lives, I have highlighted and reproduced what many of my friends and colleagues have published for everyone. Scott Evans from the Social Book, Amber Elliott from Houston Chronicle and Houstonia online are some that I have used as reference here. I will continue to update MyRedGlasses website, FB and Insta but you can and should click on to their sites (link below) often to stay informed. (it is safe to say that any events that were planned for the immediate future have been cancelled or postponed; you should check regularly for reschedule dates were applicable!)

God bless us all……our strength as a community will beat this!

  1. Roz:

Thank you for the update of our city. I hope your luncheon went well. I hope you raised the monies for the Italian Cultural Center that you wanted. I know for some of us that did not know about the Center you opened a great awareness for all of us.
What a scary time for all of us. We need to support our restaurants at this time. If you are not wanting to visit the restaurants, with Door Dash and Uber eats is a great way to get it to go. I wish everyone well and stay safe.

  2. Thanks so much Franelle, I’m happy to know that we have helped you become aware of the Italian Cultural Center……it’s a little jewel of knowledge and culture in the middle of the Museum District. This is a scary time and we do need to practice “social distancing” carefully to be smart and cautious but still share love and caring with our friends and family…..we are a great city of coming together for each other! Please stay safe and yes, we can all order in and support our restaurants……we’re doing that tonight!! xoxo
