Lucky Houstonians can boast that we are one of four cities in the U.S. and the only one in Texas and the Southwest that was a destination city for a freestanding L.K. Bennett of London boutique, on Level I of the Houston Galleria. It has become known on many fashion blogs and in the fashion press as the Duchess of Cambridge’s favorite shoe store. It was because of her many photographed appearances in two styles, the Maddox wedge, worn the day after the big day and the Sledge, natural patent platform high-heeled pump that we, in America, first heard of this London-based brand.
LK Bennett, founded in 1990 was originally known for its signature shoe collections favored by celebrities and other stylish women. However, when attending its Grand Opening Party on December 20th benefiting Houston Wilderness, it was clear to me that their selection included far more than just the famous shoes that we had all heard so much about. I was not totally shocked by the assortment having just returned from NYC where I had visited Bloomingdale’s 59th Street flagship L.K. Bennett boutique and its complete collections of apparel, handbags, accessories and, of course, shoes. Houston’s display of very modern, accessible luxury was much more than I had expected. L.K. Bennett is establishing itself as a modern heritage brand, offering modern collections in all categories at very affordable high-end but not off-the-chart pricing.
L.K. Bennett, which now has its own U.S. President has eleven selling boutiques for its complete collections that include four freestanding stores and seven Bloomingdale’s locations. In the U.K., globally and thru e-commerce (www.lkbennett.com) it now has 130 stores and its goal is for quite an expansive plan for the U.S., as well, for the future.
If you haven’t had a chance to visit this store yet, it’s located on Level I, next to Saks. You will be pleasantly surprised at their very affordable, modern selection also of dresses, sportswear and their newest It Bag, the Nicole, which goes forward into Spring in both basics and fashion colors such as Coral (shown) and my favorite, Baby Blue. Of course, the shoe collection is their signature with a wide array of styles just arriving for Spring/Summer 2012.
I just love Kate’s style and favourite shoes. She really does have taste in clothes and footwear. The Maddox wedge shoes are lovely and no wonder it’s a sell-out. Sledge Heel in Natural is okish! Great informative info here.
