Hotel Alessandra, part of the Valencia group that also owns CityCentre’s stylish, sophisticated and award winning destination, Hotel Sorella, opened in Downtown Houston’s pedestrian-friendly Greenstreet area in October.
As any of you that follow MRG know, I was out of the country the month of October and missed many wonderful happenings in this city of ours. Not the least of them was the opening of the newest Urban development to hit our Downtown scene. The opening of the Hotel Alessandra, which occupies 20 floors and 223 rooms soaring amidst the beautiful Downtown skyline, is located in a prime site on what was formerly a restaurant pad on Dallas Street at Fannin. So lucky for me I was invited for an overnight guest staycation in this stunning new hotel and the timing could not have been better. We were able to get a good flavor for the hotel, its many amenities, its neighboring activities all of which we could share with you just in time for us to re-charge for the holidays and also be able to tell you some of the upcoming attractions for the hotel…mainly, the special New Year’s Eve package that they are offering. (scroll down to see details of the New Year’s package)
The following are some of the highlights of this stunning new hotel…..
You are greeted up on the second level by this very sleek, reception area. A 16 ft. long Reinhard Gorner photograph anchors the check-in desk creating a very dramatic entrance to the hotel public areas….all located on the second floor.
This dramatic entry to the hotel designed by the San Francisco office of Gensler, showcases the spectacular interior design by local firm Rottet Studio, whose work I have always admired. This is the first ground up Houston hotel commission for the firm which is headquartered only a few blocks away.
Another amazing dramatic view of the second floor interiors.
Alessandra’s accommodations include traditional king and double options as well as a selection of signature suites. Our room, on the corner of the picturesque 20th floor was perfectly serene and offered sophisticated styling that I felt to be both simplistic and comfortable. Also included is complimentary WI-FI. 24 hour room service, a menu of in-room spa services and a smart refreshment center stocked with healthy and classic snack options.
Bardot Lounge, on second floor, is modeled after American style cocktail bars that became popular in London at the turn of the century. It also serves as a posh getaway for house-baked pastries, freshly squeezed juices and barista made coffees, daily from 6-11.
Lucierne Restaurant, available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, occupies the southeast corner of the hotel. A handful of lucky diners can enjoy bar seating overlooking the open display kitchen, where acclaimed chef, Jose Hernandez, will prepare contemporary Continental cuisine with a focus on Mediterranean inspirations.
Pool area adjacent to fitness center on 5th floor allows for relaxation amidst a surrounding of an urban skyline….a feeling of being away without ever really leaving our urban city. That is something particularly appealing to an urbanite like myself.
Spa by Alessandra encompasses two private massage rooms, two manicure/pedicure stations, hair/makeup stations plus a retail and relaxation area. I was able to take part in some of their offerings and would highly recommend them as a must for any stay.
It should be noted that one of the pluses for this new hotel entry into our city is that it is perfectly located in the heart of Downtown, making it readily accessible for any travelers desires. Certainly ideal for businessmen with its proximity to Fortune 500 companies, court houses and the recently revitalized convention district. Also with its position near the METRORail it can also be easily accessible to the Medical Center, NRG Park, Rice University and the Museum District, Hermann Park and Houston Zoo. Not to mention that the popular EaDo and Midtown districts are just a short walk away. You can virtually get to anywhere you wish to be very easily, plus you have a beautiful urban skyline view right out your window. For me, it was particularly familiar as I looked out at the beautiful building that Hines recently built right where the old Foley’s Downtown Building was that I spent 30 years of my life….quite nostalgic for me!
Thank you for our overnight staycation, so needed by my hubby and I as we re-fueled for the busy holiday schedule that was facing us…..perfect timing, perfect weekend thanks to our beautiful surroundings and a staff of peeps that could not do enough for us!
