The “Empress of Fashion” as she has been called, Diana Vreeland’s legendary career in Fashion included 26 years as Fashion Editor of Harper’s Bazaar and 9 years as Editor-in-Chief of Vogue.  Her 16 years at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art began an era of  appreciation for the partnering of fashion and art that has continued to produce many  outstanding exhibits through to  current day. She wore many hats and made many contributions to the fashion world as an editor, curator, writer and modern woman.

Diana Vreeland Parfums

The brand was created in New York City by Alexander Vreeland, Mrs. Vreeland’s grandson, who was in town recently at a personal appearance at Neiman Marcus Galleria where I was able to chat with him about his vision to launch this American luxury brand. Diana Vreeland Parfums is a fragrance and beauty collection inspired by Mrs. Vreeland’s personality: described as fearless, colorful, confident and fun. Only the finest and most luxurious elements were used in all of the details of development of this brand. IFF (International Flavors and Fragrances) was chosen as the exclusive fragrance house, Fabien Baron created the bottle as a homage to Mrs. Vreeland in a color palette that reflects here unique passion for color!

In 2014, five Eau de Parfums were launched. In February a sixth fragrance was introduced and two additional fragrances are launching in 2015. The collection goal is 12-15 fragrances by 2017.  The following is a very succinct overview of each of these fabulous  fragrances  and which I personally reviewed, tried and selected from. Decision was tough for me to choose so I left it to Alexander to pick for me. His selection for me was Outrageously Vibrant . He said that he chose this one for me because it was younger and more fashionable…..cannot argue with that description. I think he said all of the right words!!! I love it and have been wearing it.

Diana Vreeland Parfums for the Home…the Scented Candle

To quote Mrs. Vreeland, “by far and away the most important fragrance is the fragrance of a house as it is the ambiance of the owner.”  As someone who could never have enough scented candles, I was totally taken with the one fragrance candle that is part of the collection.  Extravagance Russe Candle, reflects a scent of its own that took much work to get just right.  The end result is delightful!  This is an area that Alexander has plans to grow for the coming year, adding diffusers, room sprays, pot pourri and incense to the home collection.

Diana Vreeland Parfums Beauty…Luxe Body Cream

This rich Body Cream that comes in a fragrance not tied to the others, is universal and can be used to moisturize the skin and worn underneath as a nice compliment to any of the Diana Vreeland fragrances.  The feel was very luxurious to the touch. This is also an area where additional categories will be added, including body gels; soaps;  face, hand and body creams plus the growing category of beauty which is Hair, where shampoos and conditioners are being developed as well.

About Alexander Vreeland

Alexander and I are not strangers, we actually worked together in both his and my former lives, as he spent several years in the management of luxury goods companies when I was Fashion Director.  His career spans from Ralph Lauren and Armani to the production of a Calvin Klein collection for designer sportswear in select department stores. It was in 2009 that his father and uncle asked him to preside over his Grandmother’s estate, where he has overseen a book (The Eye Has to Travel)  and movie with wife Lisa Vreeland and museum exhibit.  However, it was his desire to also launch an American luxury brand, that would reflect his Grandmother’s spirit. Through her iconic status and influence on fashion throughout the 20th century, her legacy could be interpreted in a large assortment of products.  He saw a void in the American Luxury  Fragrance Industry and set out to create a brand with the highest quality of everything…beginning with perfumer, juices, bottles, etc.

  1. One of my all-time favorites! I have all of her books and ‘Memos’ is on my coffee table. I can’t wait to try these!
