Front cover of September issue of Harper’s Bazaar, featuring Emma Ferrer, granddaughter of Audrey Hepburn as shot by Richard Avedon, grandson, Michael….a historic pairing!
Being a fashion person by nature and by trade, I felt that being at the Audrey Hepburn Society Ball for UNICEF was just the right place for me. The evening’s décor was lovely, the women were beautifully dressed and jeweled and all were coming together to honor local philanthropists as well as the legacy of an amazing woman who gave tirelessly to the children of UNICEF and through her son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer was there in spirit.
Sean Hepburn Ferrer and wife, Karen Hofer as Honorary Chairs of Houston’s recent Audrey Hepburn Society Ball for UNICEF, is the father of Emma Ferrer
I felt particularly honored to be able to spend a few minutes chatting with Sean, his wife and their business associates in the green room before the gala. There we were able to take a quick glance away from the evening’s activities and I could ask him about the amazing photo porfolio that I had just seen exclusively in Harper’s Bazaar Magazine. I told him how intrigued I had been by the entire story, as well as enchanted by his lovely daughter, Emma, granddaughter to Audrey. The timing was perfect for this occasion and he was, of course, the proud father and very pleased that I had seen it.
If you haven’t seen it and read about this awesome young woman you should. Pamela Fiori, former Editor-in-Chief of Town & Country Magazine had written and put together this story of the brilliant pairing of two off-springs of icons in the fashion/style world. 20 year old, Emma Ferrer was photographed beautifully and styled very Audrey-esque by Michael Avedon, the 23 year old grandson of Richard Avedon for the wrap cover and feature article in the September issue of Harpers Bazaar.
As you may know, Audrey Hepburn was very much the style icon that Richard Avedon had great pleasure in photographing as often as possible. She was most definitely his muse and together they were the inspiration for the classic movie, Funny Face, starring Hepburn and Fred Astaire as the young photographer, modeled after Avedon.
When asked about what the future holds for his stunning daughter and would a step into the world of fashion be an option for this young woman? He answered that although she had been recently invited personally by designer, Alber Elbaz, of Lanvin to sit front row at their 125th Anniversary runway show during Paris Fashion Week and is in discussion to represent an Italian jewelry collection in print, her true love is art and her dream is to be an artist. He spoke of how she liked nothing more than to come home from her art classes each day with paint-splattered shoes. She has lived most of her life around Florence, the cultural magnate, and has studied there for a couple of years. The article stated that she will be making her way to the New York area as she continues her art education in the New Jersey location of her Florentine fine arts university.
What remains to be seen is hopefully more of this young woman, who although she never was able to have met her famous grandmother, born months after her passing, appears to those of us that read the article and viewed the images, to have much of her grandmother within. If you haven’t seen this cover and spread within the issue, please do….you are in for a delightful read!
