Milano, Italy’s amazing 10 Corso Como store, celebrating its 25 year anniversary with opening of its only U.S. location in NYC Seaport District in June 2017
In an exclusive interview with Women’s Wear Daily,(Sept.7,2016) founder, Carla Sozzani, has announced with the Seaport District’s developers, The Howard Hughes Corporation, that it will be coming to NYC next June in a 13,000 square feet addition to the Fulton Market, Seaport District renovation that is in the works now. Founded and conceived by Sozzani in Milano in 1991, it is regarded as one of the most dynamic retail environments in the world. I have visited this store and there is nothing quite like it anywhere else. It has opened locations in Seoul, Bejing and Shanghai and of course maintains its fabulous Milano flagship.
Known as a top innovator in the fashion and design world, the developers feel that Sozzani and her establishment will be the consummate example of the cutting edge, innovative style that this new development will be going after. She has pioneered in Milano a unique retail concept that brings together fashion, cuisine, art, music, design and lifestyle.

Sozzani believes that New York does not need another fashion store and she is looking to sell more design pieces and creating a meeting point. She feels there is a ‘social revolution’ going on amongst the young Internet followers that are showing an increasing desire to socialize, to meet and converse. That is her desire to establish in this District in lower Manhattan where so many things are happening.

In the Women’s Wear article, both Carla Sozzani and developer, Howard Hughes Organization CEO, David R. Weinreb were interviewed. Weinreb was quoted as saying that “realizing how 10 Corso Como changed its surrounding in Milano when it opened,” he is anticipating this store to be key in revitalizing this area of Manhattan as well.
Great things have begun as they progress on the creation of this newly renovated development. The district will encompass seven buildings, 400,00 square feet of culinary, fashion, entertainment and cultural experiences. Some examples are the planned 40,00 sq. ft. food market, developed by famed Jean-George Vongerrichten in the restored Tin Building as well as restaurants to be opened by Momofuku Group, headed by David Chang.
